Seabridge Gold Inc. (SEA:TSX; SA:NYSE.MKT) announced in a news release it commenced drilling at its Iskut project in British Columbia.
"Seabridge acquired the large land package at Iskut because we saw clear evidence of a porphyry system with many of the characteristics of our giant KSM project in rocks of the same age. We are excited that we now have the opportunity to test these ideas," Seabridge Chairman and CEO Rudi Fronk said in the release.
The Toronto-based company intends to drill up to 8,000 meters (8,000m) of core to evaluate about 750m of strike and 800m-plus of vertical projection that the geophysical data showed.
Seabridge stated that it has spent three years preparing this target through geophysical work, surface mapping, sampling and preliminary drilling.
With this program now underway, "drill holes are designed to cut across the induced polarization anomaly and a distinct magnetic feature which encloses the diatreme encountered in previous drilling," the release noted. "Holes are planned to penetrate the geophysical anomalies at various elevations along the strike of the features, targeting the likely cradle of the porphyry system."
The firm noted "rigorous procedures are being followed in this year's program to minimize the risks associated with Covid-19."
